About Us

Cornforth Physiotherapy was founded in 1964 by Robert Cornforth, a Montrealer, who received physiotherapy education and training in England. He returned to Montreal and joined the Montreal Canadiens hockey organization as team physiotherapist, helping them to win 5 Stanley Cups. Robert then opened his own practice in N.D.G. It was the first private physiotherapy clinic in Canada.

Inspired by Robert’s success in treating professional athletes, Joyce, his wife, completed her degree in Physiotherapy at McGill University before joining Robert’s private practice. Joyce is no longer treating patients but remains a key figure in the business.

Their daughter, Cheryl, received her degree in physiotherapy from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters in Business Administration from McGill University. She has taken many additional courses in orthopedics and manual therapy. After working in Boston and New York City, she returned to Montreal to join the family practice in 2006.

A valuable addition to the Cornforth team includes Lech Nowicki, our sports therapist. Lech has a Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in Sports Therapy from the Academie of Physical Education in Warsaw, Poland. After working with elite athletes in the Olympic Preparation Center in Warsaw, Lech moved to Montreal, and he joined the Cornforth Team in 1990. He is also a certified massage therapist and has followed a course in osteopathy.
