Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the art and science of treating physical disorders and disabilities. Physiotherapists work in hospitals and clinics, specializing in orthopedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary, pediatrics and geriatrics. At Cornforth Physio, most of our treatment relates to orthopedic conditions in the adult population, although we do have many geriatric clients and children as well.

Our treatment plan’s objective is to relieve pain and increase the functional range of motion and strength in order to return the patient to their normal activities of daily living.

This is achieved by performing a physical examination of the patient that includes history, postural assessment, range of motion, strength testing and other specialized tests. At Cornforth Physio, we also believe that the use of palpation by expert hands can assist in the diagnosis of the patient’s condition.

Treatment options include: manual therapy techniques, therapeutic ultrasound, electrical stimulation (e.g. TENS), soft tissue massage, shortwave diathermy, taping and individually tailored exercises.

Common conditions treated include:

  • back injuries
  • neck injuries
  • shoulder tendonitis
  • post-surgical rehabilitation
  • osteoarthritis
  • osteoporosis
  • tennis elbow
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • hip bursitis
  • ankle sprains
  • muscle strains
  • vertigo
